Joyce Reilly Clautice
Ms. Virginia Senior America 1999 and Ms. Senior America 1999

Joyce Reilly Clautice of Alexandria, the reigning Ms. Virginia Senior America 1999, was crowned Ms. Senior America 1999 at the New York New York Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada. This is the first time in the 19 year history of the Ms. Senior America pageant that a Virginia resident has received this honor. Thirty-two state representatives from across the United States and the Virgin Islands were judged on personal interview, modeling an evening gown, their philosophy of life and showcasing a talent. Ms. Clautice performed an exciting and original ballet to "Chariots of Fire," in keeping with her philosophy, "If your mind can receive it and your heart can believe it, then your body can achieve it." Ms. Clautice recently retired from Woodlawn Elementary School in Fairfax County after 25 years of teaching in four states. She tutors children and volunteers with the "stay at home alone" elderly. Ms. Clautice has performed with the Liturgical Dance Group of Mt. Vernon and showcases with the Cameo Jewels, a traveling entertainment troupe that supports the state and national pageants. She exercises with racquetball, golf, skiing and aerobics, travels extensively, and enjoys treasured moments with her four grandchildren. She is a member of the National Osteoporosis Foundation, Good Shepherd Church, Mount Vernon Naval Officers Wives Club, Y-Me Breast Cancer and AARP as well as treasurer of the Fort Belvoir Yacht Club and Virginia Senior America Cameo Club.

Ms. Clautice recently clebrated her 40th wedding anniversary with husband Navy Captain William G. Clautice who had command of the Naval Research Lab. He is retired from the Submarine Service after 30 years and is presently a Vice President of Dynamics Research Corporation. They have three children, a daughter and son who followed in their father's footsteps, graduating from the US Naval Academy, and a daughter who mirrors her mother as a teacher.
